Screen Printing FAQ

Most people are familiar with the idea of screen printing. We’ve all got a collection of branded t-shirts, sweatshirts, and a variety of other apparel that’s been screen printed, so the concept in and of itself is not news. However, when the time comes that you need your own apparel screen printed, there are certain factors you’ll want to learn more about so you can make an informed decision about your printer and the supplies they use.

Screen Printing FAQ #1: What’s the deal with the ink?

At Out of the Blue, our screen printing is done with high-quality plastisol inks. The ink is forced through a mesh screen and sits on top of the fabric, where it’s then heated to bond with the fibers of the garment. The specifics of this process combined with the quality of the ink creates a long-lasting decoration that can withstand countless wears and washes.

Screen Printing FAQ #2: How about the artwork?

Every screen printing project starts with your unique artwork. The final presentation of your project hinges on having the correct artwork files. At Out of the Blue, we use vector artwork that is created in Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw. Vectors are high-resolution files that can be resized - both up and down - without losing any clarity or precision in the design. With a vector file, we can apply a screen printed design to just about any type of apparel that will turn out sharp, crisp, and legible, no matter the size.

Don’t have a vector file? Don’t panic. Our screen printing team is here to help you through every step of your project. We can help you identify the right file format and even recreate your file as a vector so that the quality of your finished project isn’t compromised.

Screen Printing FAQ #3: How long will my project take?

Each project is unique, however Out of the Blue is proud to offer a standard turn-around time of a maximum of 10 business days to have the garments in hand once we’ve finalized your artwork. Depending on the specific needs of your project, this may vary. Need an order sooner than 10 days? No sweat. Placing a highly specialized bulk order? Don’t worry. One of our Denver screen printing representatives can help you identify a realistic timeline for your project.

Screen Printing FAQ #4: What if something goes wrong?

We pride ourselves on upholding the highest standards of quality. However, just like anything in manufacturing, errors can occur. If we ever have a misprint or a defective garment, we immediately get in touch with the client because we believe in transparency and sincerity. We’ll review all the options, including ordering replacement garments or removing that specific item from the invoice to determine what makes the most sense for the clients’ timeline. You’ll never have to worry if your project is getting done or getting done right because we keep the lines of communication open every step of the way.

Screen Printing FAQ #5: Can I supply my own garments?

At Out of the Blue, we specialize in bulk, custom screen printing orders. In some cases, clients have the apparel already that they’d like to see branded or decorated. We do have the capabilities to print on client-supplied garments in certain scenarios. One of our Denver screen printing reps can help you determine whether or not your existing garments fit the necessary criteria for a high-quality finished product.

Screen Printing FAQ #6: How much does it cost?

The very nature of custom screen printing lends itself to a wide variety of variables that will affect the price of your project. We need to know the specifics of:

  • The apparel you want
  • The quantity you need
  • The turn-around time requirements
  • The artwork design and color

With this information, we can give you a much more accurate pricing estimate than any standard range published on the site could offer.

If you’re shopping for screen printing, embroidery, or promotional products, request a quote and one of our reps will be in touch to help guide you on the next steps in your project.
